U Value – what is it?

Renovating your home can be daunting to those unaware or new to construction. It can get complicated when looking into specifics for your building materials and people can struggle to know which product to pick in such a large market of businesses. In this article, we will explain what a U-value of a roof light is to give you a better understanding of what business you should decide on.

The U-value or U-factor of building material is the thermal transmittance. This can be described as the measurement of heat loss that material is creating. In more specific terms of our roof lights, it is the measurement of the rate at that heat can transfer through the window. This means the lower the U-value, the better the product’s insulation and the lower the amount of heat wasted by the product. According to building regulations, the U-value of windows should not be any higher than 1.2 as anything more will let out too much heat in your new home renovations. When looking for a product, you as customers should be looking for the lowest U-value you can find.

At customrooflights, the U-value of all our products is 0.6 W/m. This is one of the lowest U-values you will find on the roof lights market and we are very proud of it. With our product, you can ensure your indoor home temperature can be maintained efficiently. Our high-quality roof lights are also triple-glazed, self-cleaning and argon filled. We can supply over 30 different sizes anywhere in the UK.
